Review of DreamHost

DreamHost

I've always been very pleased with DreamHost's web hosting and now just recently I've learned they went carbon neutral. It took them three days to go from “Hey let’s do this” to “Hey it’s done!” (and several thousand dollars ;)

With all their servers, two offices, and employee computers, they calculated their carbon footprint at 30,600 acres and generate 2,725 tons of CO2 per year. To help offset, they did little things like switching to coffee cups made from fully renewable resources, to deploying power-efficient AMD processors. They also are purchasing yearly carbon credits to make up for the rest.

While fluorescent light bulbs may not give off the same light as traditional incandescents, they are quite the electricity saver. From energystar.gov, They "use at least 2/3 less energy than standard incandescent bulbs to provide the same amount of light, and last up to 10 times longer."

Review of Craigslist

Craigslist is a great way to keep 'sustainable.' Buying used couches/tables/chairs/tvs/electronics/cars, etc. is one of the best ways to 'recycle' and reduce the amount of garbage we put out there.

They also have a free section, which ties into the whole 'freecycle' concept.

Review of Prius

I really like this car, it kinda feels futuristic with the large center display that shows you your gas consumption along with a nice little moving diagram on how the 'innards' of your car are working. Some models even have a rear cam that show you that you're about to bump that car behind you during a parallel parking job.

Review of City CarShare

I've been using citycar for half a year now. It's almost a necessity in sf if you don't have a car. The greatest thing is you can pick the kind of car you need. Want to pick up a couch off craigslist, get the pickup truck. Want to take a bunch of friends for a hike in muir woods, get a 5 seater scion.
