Blue Moon Cafe - an ambitous little center

The Blue Moon Cafe is located in the historic downtown distric of Exeter New Hampshire. Visit Website or call for directions if you don't have GPS. I visit this store when I am in the Exeter area for milk and a few other essentials but I always find myself browsing the products and coming out of there with organic produce, smudging sticks, incense, and a variety of other things I didn't realize I could buy locally at a reasonable price. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they practice what they preach. They usually load up your purchases in one of their product cardboard boxes - reduce, recycle, reuse. Their Cafe is great for a light lunch with organic juice made at the time of order, soups, homemade bread etc. I have not used their holistic center but my wife has taken Yoga there and loves it. There is also an area outside where you can pick up pamphlets related to the local "green" community and local cultural events. Great little place - visit it if you're in Exeter.

A little education goes a long way

Compact flourescent lights put out a LOT of light for the amount of power they consume but you need to be mindful of the color temperature of the bulb.

I prefer a softer light for lighting large areas (2700K) but for the bathroom areas and tasklighting for the kitchen and my desk I prefer a greater contrast so I go with a daylight bulb (5000K).

Most people are used to a warm color hue from the "softlight" incandescent bulbs and go out and buy the daylight bulbs and try them as a direct replacement - end result is a weird unnatural light which turns people off to CFLs alltogether.

All CFL packages will tell you the color temperature somewhere on the package - just remember that the lower the temperature the "softer" the light and the higher the temperature the greater the "contrast".

Since they came out with the electronic ballast I have been crazy about CFLs - I don't have any incandescent bulbs in my house - not even in the fridge (found a CFL that works at low temps)

Review of BatterySpace

The best place to buy rechargable Batteries

I have been doing buisiness with Batteryspace for a few years and they have been in buisiness since 1995. They have the overall best prices on Lion, NiCad, and NIMH batteries - they also carry some lead acid. There is an outstanding Forums section on the website where you can post and read tips, reviews, hints, technical data etc. I purchase replacement batteries for all my electronic gadgets here and also for my custom projects. I do a lot of experimentation with solar and while some competitors do have higher densities the price/power combination of the batteries here can't be beat! All of the batteries they sell are branded under the "Powerizer" brand. There is a pretty large array of choices when it comes to size/power density on the LiON batteries and they also sell protection circuits to keep you from accidently blowing your battery up and starting a fire. For the somewhat less technically inclined they also sell LiON packs with a protection circuit built-in.
