Celebrate Easter the fun and eco friendly way! Find helpful tips here...

With Easter Sunday a little more than a week away, it's not too soon to start your planning. For those wanting to incorporate eco awareness into your holiday, there are ways for you to celebrate the holiday be festive, and maintain that sustainable lifestyle.

Here are some fun and creative Easter ideas to celebrate this special springtime holiday with eco awareness:

1. Share holiday greetings with e cards.
2. Decorate your home with reusable decorations. Remember to include plants and blooming seasonal flowers for decoration. They will improve indoor air quality and bring sparkle to your festivities.
3. Because Easter baskets are frequently made up of plastic, consider reuse plastic baskets each year or make your own baskets. Ideas include: grow real grass for them, use a paper shredder and shred some paper you have around the house. Or, use Raffia or strips of green or multi-colored fabric for your basket.
4. Another option is natural and fair trade Easter baskets.
5. Replace your plastic eggs. Create and decorate clay Easter eggs, Imperial Papier-Mâché Eggs or chocolate eggs.
6. If you use natural eggs, consider using a natural dye.
7. Replace toys with fun, amusing non consumable alternatives: harmonica or wooden egg shakers.
8. NatureMoms offers some excellent candy and non candy alternatives.
9. Adopt a pet from your local SPCA.
10. My personal favorite, plant a tree.

Throughout my professional consulting career, I've found holidays to be a great way to integrate sustainability concepts not only into your own life, but also into the lives of others. Happy Easter to you!

my hubby made me a sweet easter basket (see it at http://www.cooking4carnivores.com/2009/04/what-did-easter-bunny-bring-you.html) and he used shredded credit card offers for filler. i thought it was a great idea and it worked just fine. any ideas on what to do with the plastic eggs he filled with candy? can they be recycled? should we just save them for next year?
