Soil Management & Crop Fertilization

Down to Earth, located in my home town of Eugene, Oregon, not only has great retail locations for all things green for the home and garden, but for the past 30 years they have also specialized in organic soil management and crop fertilization. Since the late 90's Down to Earth has packaged their fertilizers in 100% recycled boxes printed with soy-based inks. When you are done with the boxes, shred them and add them to your compost.

Their products include compost, potting and seed starting mediums, beneficial microbes, fertilizer blends, soil amendments, lawn care, and products for plant protection.

I like their 100% Natural Worm Compost, as I don' t have worm bins of my own. Check out their selection of Bat and Seabird Guano fertilizers. Down to Earth is considered one of our country's top manufacturers and distributors of high quality home garden and commercial use garden and landscaping products.

Here's a tip I learned from them: mow high to prevent scalping the grass (guilty), which causes it to die back and allows weeds to grow (which it did). Also, slightly taller grass shades the soil surface, conserving water (there's hope).
