Considering to Buy Myself a Sigg!

I currently have a CamelBak bottle, and I just read many reviews on stainless steel water bottles. For those of you doubting the "secret lining" of SIGG water bottles, here's a message from the SIGG President. Maybe it's convincing enough?

Steve Wasik
President, SIGG USA

One of the reasons SIGG is the world leader in the manufacturing of premium water bottles is because of our proprietary bottle liner. This special liner is a water-based, non-toxic polymer which has been perfected over decades of Swiss craftsmanship. Like Coca-Cola's soft drink recipe, the SIGG liner formula remains secret and unavailable to third parties in order to protect our competitive advantage. The Swiss have confirmed to me the following information which may be of interest to you:
1. The SIGG bottle liner meets and exceeds requirements outlined by the USA FDA regulations (175.300). The liner is micro thin and still allows for the bottle to be 100% recyclable.
2. Due to the finish/porosity of the liner, SIGGs outperform polycarbonate #7 and other plastic materials at reducing bacteria build-up and ease of cleaning.
3. The SIGG bottle liner is totally inert because it is baked on at extremely high temperatures (over 200 degrees Celsius). The liner is flexible and remains intact and fully functioning no matter how dented the outside of the bottle becomes.
4. SIGGs are safe to be placed in the dishwasher with no harm to the liner. In addition, SIGG's liner protects from any migration or leaching of the liner & container into the liquid. All tests of the liquid reveal no trace (0 %) of any of the following chemicals: Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA), Bysphenol A (BPA)

Sigg seems the best alternative

Sigg with the very high European safety standards seemed the best water bottle option. I ruled out Nalgene and Kleen Kanteen (couldn't get past 'responsibly' made in China) . Yes it's a little heaver than plastic and it doesn't have insulation - In Maryland the heat is intensive - but I just keep it with me in the office and refill with the filtered water there. I bought some for family members and we all loved the designs. I only use water so cleaning is not a problem. You can use interchange different types of drinking tops depending on your use. I'll order more and will keep a cooler in the car. We have to adapt to be healthy and safe!

Love it, but ...

I carry my sig bottle everywhere. I have a slot in most of my purses/bags for it.

Here are some pros:
Keeps drinks cold
Environmentally friendly (better than recycling plastic)
Looks great
Very durable, lasts forever (had mine for 3 years and still no leaks)
No leaks

Here are some cons:
Sweats a bit with a cold drink inside
Heavier than a plastic water bottle
Travels with you (can recycle a plastic bottle)
Not dishwasher safe (but not too hard to clean if you have the Sigg brush)

SIGG Water Bottles Almost Rock

SIGG designs are eye catching, and I really appreciate the various sizes. But if you are concerned about plastic leeching, the tops of these bottles are still made out of plastic so that seems to defeat the purpose to me. They are also pretty pricey and somewhat hard to clean. I really like the way they look and I like the fact that they don't change the flavor of water at all, but I probably won't buy another one.

Not great for bicycling

I bought a Sigg bottle so I could avoid plastic, but now a year later I find that I rarely use it. I like that it's cute and nontoxic and doesn't get stinky, but it's got a few inconvenient drawbacks for cycling. The strange kind of sport top is a bit hard to use and lets only a small amount of liquid out at a time. The first time it fell on the pavement the protective cover over the mouthpiece broke in pieces, and subsequent falls saw it get dented and lose paint. Also, it rattles in my metal bottle cage unless I put a sock or bandana around it. I'm afraid I'm back to riding with a plastic water bottle :-(

Sigg Rocks!

I ran across this product line before they were into full blown advertising mode. Awesome concept and great product. They have many options in design, shape, spout/lid. I got one for everyone in immediate family and DARE them to not use them. The only drawback is the basic line is not insulated and living in the terrarium called, Florida, sometimes begs for a bit of insulation in a water bottle!

Easy to use. Easy to clean (they have perfect bottle brushes on their site!). Easy on the enviornment! Why would you want to drink mystery water from plastic when you can always have your own filtered (for SURE) water in a reusable - not to mention - funky & cool water bottle?!?! You wouldn't & shouldn't!

Love it!

The fact that this bottle is made of a metal and not plastic is its #1 perk. It doesn't leach chemicals into your drink and it does not hold flavors or germs like plastic (even the re-usable plastic bottles) does. Its durable and the top has a loop that can be used to hang on a backpack or bag with a caribiner. The aluminum is lightweight when empty. It gets extra cold in the fridge too! The Sigg bottle is seriously my favorite water bottle purchase ever!

Very close to perfect

Cool graphics, recyclable at the end of it's useful life, made in Europe which has high environmental standards, rather than China which has low standards, lining is tested as inert. There is a lot to like about Sigg.
The lining is supposed to be an epoxy, (it is proprietary, so it is hard to find out too much.) There are some people that are concerned that epoxies have bad chemicals in them, and how do we know the Sigg formula is better. The bottles have been tested, but depending on how stringently you apply the precautionary principal to your own life, you might want to consider this info.

I love them and use them.

Looks good, tastes great

I feel good bringing my Sigg bottle to meetings and other events as it looks professional and demonstrates how easy it is to eliminate disposable cups. The improvement I'd like to make to the model I have would be attaching the bottle cap to the bottle. Some stores sell Sigg brand narrow brushes and tablets to help you keep the bottle clean, but I haven't tried these yet as I keep only water in my Sigg. I found my bottle on sale at reusablebags.com.

Big difference, small opening

I think these Sigg water bottles are great. My only complaint, and it is a pretty small one, is that it is hard to clean. Yes, you can put it in the dishwasher but that opening is just a bit too small to allow you tell if it is properly cleaned. Other than that, I think mine is great. I have taken it all over and while it shows a bit of wear, it still does the job.

Love my SIGG's!

I have a few SIGG's and love them! The water tastes like it should (no metal taste). I prefer the SIGG screw top (the one with the hole that you could attach to a carabiner). I had a 'active' style top, but I could never get it to work right. My son has a kid's sized bottle with the kid's top. I took off the cover because It kinda got in the way, but the twist to open lid works great! Oh and I love the new styles of SIGG's for the spring 2008... so cute!

Mixed Results

We have several SIGGs which we have enjoyed. They have been the type with the hole on top that you can hold by putting your finger through. For my children for their sports, I picked up the type that have the pop over top and then you 'unscrew' the lid to drink. One of my children dropped his bottle on a wooden floor after just the 2nd or 3rd use, and the plastic on the lid broke off even though it was closed and there wasn't really a hard edge to make it break. I was really disappointed that it broke so easily - especially since it was a relatively expensive purchase.

Sigg aluminum bottles are the best!

With a choice of tops, Sigg bottles automatically beat out the competition. Since they're aluminum, there's no plastic to leach into your beverage. And there are many nifty designs to choose from.

Love my sigg

I've had one of these aluminum water bottles for about a year now and I do think it's a great alternative to plastic. Plus, the office where I work has a filtered water fountain where I can fill up. Filtered water in a reusable container like the sigg is key to eliminating the plastic bottled water habit.

Great product

These canteens are great and reusable. Make sure that you wash them ASAP after use otherwise the taste of what you had last will remain in the container. If you take care of this product well it is a great lightweight and portable product.

Better for you than plastic

I'm still more of a fan of ceramic or glass in terms of taste and keeping drinks cool, but aluminum water bottles are certainly better than disposable plastic bottles and are probably better for you than plastic "Nalgene"-type bottles because they don't seep into your drink over time.

SIGG water bottles

I first saw SIGG water bottles in Leipzig, Germany in 2004 and loved all the cute designs on the bottles. I picked up a little one with a little kozie for it. Alas, the little one is still goin strong, but I needed a larger size. Found loads of different designed SIGGs on the web and ordered 1 big and 1 medium sized bottle. They never smell and they don't leach phalates! I love em! Way better than Nalgene bottles b/c Nalgene are made with plastic....that leaches!

Now I'm scared...but still using it?

Gosh, I bought this after hearing Nalgene was no good. I never thought it was aluminum. How do we know if it's safe?

Guess we don't, but somehow drinking a wee bit of metal seems better than slurping on plastic.

Still using it, even though it's questionable

I've heard the news about the secret lining of Sigg bottles, but I'm still going to use mine. I've got one for every-day use, and I just bought a sports-bottle one, too. I think the designs are catchy and it's still a better alternative, in my opinion, to plastic. Maybe my next one will be a Kleen Kanteen, but for now I'm sticking with Sigg. Yes, it dents, but I like the fact that it gets a little character. I also love that there are different caps. I use the one that you can use a clip with to clip it onto my bag. Overall, good bottle!

SIGG Bottle

I love our SIGG bottles! I have one for each of my two kids who are involved in sports year round. I know my kids are drinking clean water and it saves me money from buying something I can get for free - water! I even take the bottles to events we attend instead of buying overpriced drinks from concession stands. My only complaint is the new sports bottle top design, it's hard for my youngest to figure out how to open.
