Avoid Fortified Waters

Fortified waters like Vitamin Water are another useless product that is packaged in plastic bottles. There are dozens of these specialty water beverages that cost more than water and most have lots of calories. Don't buy them.

This a glass of water and beside it is a multiple vitamin pill. The glass is reusable, completely recyclable, and inert, meaning it leaches nothing. It costs around 1,000 times less than bottled water. So why buy vitamin enhanced water in a plastic bottle when all you need to do is pour a glass of water and swallow a vitamin pill?

What? You want to be healthy and, as Vitamin Water advertises, hydrate responsibly? You want to drink and get vitamins at the same time, right? After a little research I found that informed sources such as the Mayo Clinic advise that Vitamin Water is NOT better that plain water. There are 50 calories per serving in Vitamin Water and each bottle has 2.5 servings (sneaky marketing). That amounts to 125 calories. If you are trying to lose weight, don’t drink it. Take a vitamin pill and eat fruits and veggies if you are concerned about getting your vitamins and nutrients.

Dozens of water and pop companies are making fortified waters now. PepsiCo has Aquafina Essentials. Gatorade makes Propel Fitness Water. Coca-Cola sells Dasani Nutriwater. This segment of the water industry is fast growing and marketing is sophisticated. The names of the flavors of Vitamin Water include endurance, energy, essential, and focus. What do those names mean to anyone who has a brain? Don’t be pulled in. Be a wise consumer and avoid these products. Also, of course, they are packaged in plastic bottles!
