B Corporation Movement

This non-profit has created a certification system similar to LEED, for companies to who practice the triple bottom line. To be certified a company has to edit their articles of incorporation to reflect the TBL priority over shareholders. They also must achieve 40 out of 100 points on the B Rating System and pay 1/10th of 1% of revenue to B Lab. The genius of this system is that it will help consumers like us separate good companies from good marketing. I'm often suspicious of corporate giants turning green, and now we can see which companies will commit to certification. A system like this ensures what happened to Ben & Jerry's (corporate buyout, values compromised) won't happen to a B Corporation. Worth noting there are 2 other similar rating systems in the works, WISER and REVEAL, but neither of those require amending the articles of incorporation, which I find necessary to protect the TBL values. State laws make this all very complicated, but it's a step in the right direction. Read more here http://bcorporation.net/blog/IncMagazine.pdf
