too much hype

Picked these up the other day. Slept on them OK last night. They feel very different than regular 'sheets'. More like you're sleeping under a piece of cloth than a sheet - took a while to get used to. I'm not used to a sheet that wants to cling to you all the time.

The bad - mail thing is they are too short. the flat sheet leaves only about 2" to tuck under the mattress. I kept having to get up in the middle of the night to re-make the bed. They are going back to the store for this reason alone. Plus, they wrinkle worse than any shirt you've ever seen. Unless you want to live with wrinkles or iron your sheets, well...

I'm also confused about the 'green' environmental tag bamboo sheets are getting. bamboo is certainly a better option for wood products. but for cloth? Isn't cotton renewable as well? I'm confused.

If you wanna feel like you're sleeping under a big t-shirt and don't mind a lot of ironing, then go for it. Otherwise, stick with your standard cotton sheets. I was under impressed.

Better than the highest thread count!

I love my bamboo sheets - they feel silky against my skin, and it is easy to sleep well at night knowing that my sheets aren't taking their toll on the environment. The only bad thing is that they have a higher propensity to pill, ie make little fuzzballs. I'm sure after I have washed them a few more times this problem will be solved. Bed Bath & Beyond has a surprisingly comprehensive selection of alternative fiber and organic cotton sheets, so if you're not into the bamboo version, I'm sure there's something else for you out there!

Kate, I don't own bamboo sheets . . yet, but when you choose bamboo fabric in any form, you'll find that a high ratio of bamboo to a low ratio of organic cotton is preferable to 100% bamboo. Your fabric will be stronger... more »
