Bay Area May Lose Transportation Funding Due to Dirty Air

The Bay Area’s air quality does not meet federal standards and now has three years to clean up its air.

You might not expect the Bay Area – home to SustainLane’s number two ranked San Francisco – to have problems with air quality...

But on Monday, local officials there were warned once again by the EPA that if they don’t reduce wood smoke from firesplaces and exhaust from diesel engines, they may lose transportation funding.

San Francisco has adopted “Spare the Air” days, which are days residents cannot light fires in their fireplaces in order to try to reduce particulate matter in the air.
