I used the Be Curly product for a couple of years in the past, and really liked it. Since then I have transitioned to products that are more natural and chemical free than Aveda, including Aubrey Organics and Uncle Harry's.
But if you're not too concerned, the product really does work well, IF you do it right. Your hair has to be REALLY wet before you apply it. I mean, almost dripping still. If you apply it when your hair is only somewhat wet still, or if you have thoroughly towel dried, the result will be more frizz than most people want. I knew several people who used this product, and we all agreed that extra wet hair was the key to the product working great!
I have fine, curly hair, and this product wasn't my favorite. I found it heavy and sticky, though it does smell nice. It weighted down my hair rather than keeping it curly. I used it alone, not with any other mousse, etc. It was ok in a pinch, but too expensive for me to buy again.
My sister bought a tube of this for my for my birthday. Like most Aveda products, it smells pretty good, and I think it works pretty good too. More than anything, it helps to tame frizziness in my curly hair. While it's in no way crunchy, and not very sticky once it dries, you can tell that there is product in my hair when I use it, so it doesn't disappear.
Lots of Aveda products have parabens, and I don't have the ingredients list in front of me right now to check about this one, but chances are it has them. I'll check later and update!

In my attempt to find an identity for my in-between curly and straight hair, I bought Aveda's Be Curly Enhancer. It is a leave-in conditioner type goo that you put on wet hair and when it dried is contracts to, you guessed it, enhance your curls. It smells fresh and clean, not overwhelming, and it doesn't leave any kind of residue on my hair. As for making it curlier, it does help keep the waves consistent, which I like. It won't turn wavy hair into curly, but it will amp-up the waves you already have. Can't wait to try their other Be Curly products!
