Ah yes, I remember it well. It was back in October of 2007 that I took a trip with 2 buddies. I had heard about a cool kayak rental plac in Tomales bay called "Blue Water Kayaking" The drive over the bridge and into Marin is beautiful and relaxing. As we arrived they young and pleasant staff welcomed us and got us well on our way renting all the things they said we would need. The rates are reasobale and the area is pristine and mind clearing. We paddled up the bay towards the other side and happened upon a rope swing at an abanoded art colony. You can see us swinging on youtube here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7iUv3M8IV0 .
As we lazily paddled along, we could see wildlife under the ripples and birds and boats nearby. Most everyone always waves as they pass by. At one stop on the trip I spotted a strange pattern in the tall grass just off the shore of a beach. I kayaked over and, in my bare feet, made my way over to it. I was surprised to find a Calf that had gotten lost and was covered in flies and was clearly dehadrated and going to expire unless we did something. I tired to get it to drink water but it was too ill. You can see that video here as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPI8lW7bsVI . When we returned to the rental huts we shared some beers and chatted with the friendly guys who run the place. I explained about the calf and they tried to reach the Ranger but could not get through. We stepped next door to have some Oyster while looking out onto the water and wondered how we could get someone to help, We went to a grape stomping at a nearby winery and while tasting some samples in the tasting room I mentioned the calf. A voice from the other side of the room said, hey thats one of mince! She got on the phone and after showing her my video she dispatched help.
Take your own trip with Blue Water Kayaks, Get some peace of mind, and if you see a smiling cow. Say hi for me.

I've rented kayaks from Blue Waters Kayaks many times and they are great. A three to four hour trip around Tomales Bay is amazing. Other than the small businesses and a few homes the bay seems untouched and pure. The staff has always been great; helpful, friendly, easy-going. And when you're done kayaking walk next door and have some oysters; BBQ, Raw or Rockefeller. And they also arrange kayaking trips to Mexico.
