BPA now shown to reduce the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatment

Guess what everyone – one more awesome thing that that lovely chemical, bisphenol-a (aka BPA), does to the human body! BPA has already been linked to heart disease, diabetes, damage to our nervous systems, brain cells, endocrine system, hormone system, and reproductive systems. AWESOME product right? Oh, but It gets better. According to the New York Times:

“A chemical widely used in hard plastic drinking bottles and the lining of food cans may reduce the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatment, a new study shows…

In the latest research, a team from the University of Cincinnati studied human breast cancer cells, subjecting them to low levels of BPA similar to those found in the blood of adults. They found that BPA acts on cancer cells similar to the way estrogen does — by inducing proteins that protect the cells from chemotherapy agents.

‘It’s actually acting by protecting existing cancer cells from dying in response to anti-cancer drugs, making chemotherapy significantly less effective,’ said Nira Ben-Jonathan, a professor of cancer and cell biology who has studied BPA for more than 10 years.”

Get that everybody? Not only does BPA do all that other bad stuff mentioned before, but this stuff actually HELPS CANCER. It doesn’t just cause cancer, oh no. That would be way too benign. No – this stuff wraps it’s warm, loving arms around deadly cancer cells in our bodies and whispers softly into all these cells ears, “don’t you worry about that nasty chemotherapy. We’ll protect you.” Then it gives the cancer a little hug and goes off to make sure that no matter what we throw at them, all the sweet little cancer cells are safe.

FDA – HELLO?
