Personal Electric Transportation - "Model T for the 21st Century"

Almost every time we drive through Creswell, Oregon, Mark Murphy, designer of BugE, is zipping around town on his personal electric transport. I'd love to have one! A BugE's energy efficiency is 1-cent/mile, zips 40 miles at 30 mph with a 48-volt battery. And, besides self, it holds two bags of groceries.

The BugE comes as a kit with seven major components and 75 miscellaneous parts, weighing 350 lb. The basic kit is $3,300. There is also a Lighting & Control Kit for $325, and a Power Kit from EV Parts for $1154. Shipping is not included.

Once built, the BugE is a simple, low-cost personal vehicle designed to be driven year round in an urban environment. The aerodynamic design and cast acrylic canopy enables you to drive in the wind and rain. It's easy to park in small spaces, and handles stop and go traffic well. BugE was made street legal March of '07.
