Smurfy but good raw foods...

A menu of positive affirmations may seem odd at first - at least it was to me on my first several visits to the new Cafe Gratitude when it first opened on Harrison Street. The owner, Thomas, was there to talk to the new visitors and answer questions about his mission, the menu - anything. He's a sweet guy and very kind.

The food is outstanding. Some folks think that the nut-based (mostly just cashew) items are "heavy" - but I don't feel like that at all. I've heard some folks complain that they had stomachaches (mostly meat eaters who don't eat a lot of fruit or veggies). Every time I eat at Cafe Gratitude - I feel really good afterward.

I highly recommend starting with dessert first - the desserts are so rich and delicious that you want to make sure you don't miss out on the tiramisu, coconut creme pie, or key lime pie because you ate too much at the beginning. They make killer guacamole which goes well with the spicy sprouted flax seed crackers. Their salads are great -- as are the rice and quinoa bowls. The warm quinoa with fruit and maple syrup makes a very satisfying breakfast.

Pretty soon - you'll start answering to things like "Who is divine?" and "Who is cherished?" with "Oh yes, that's me over here!" and it won't just be a response to a Cafe Gratitude waitress.

Cafe Gratitude

Oh Cafe Gratitude. Luckily, I am not allergic to nuts so I can enjoy the fabulously nut-laden treats they conjure up here. The vibe at Cafe Gratitude is great, unless you are looking to quietly study and/or sulk in a post-modern artistic fashion- you'll probably be asked "How are you courageous?" by your server. The funny part is that they expect an answer.

The food is really good if you are veggie, and if you want to feel good about yourself and eat raw food every now and again. Overall, the nut-meat base of everything is too heavy to have more than a couple times a month for me, but the smoothies keep me coming back for more.

If you're not feeling very new-agey, beware, and take a friend with you so you can stay engaged in the conversation of your choice and not end up discussing "Why you are beautiful?" with a complete stranger.

Overall, good food- you just have to be in the mood for the atmosphere.

I've heard a lot of hype about the place, but wasn't really impressed when I went there. I didn't think the food was very spectacular. And, though the idea of naming their dishes the way the do is kind of neat, I found it more annoying than anything else.

Raw, local and organic, Yumm!

A lunch at Cafe Gratitude is a feast of all the senses. Your literary sense is tested first, with each item of its extensive raw, vegan menu beginning with the words, "I am..." I started with an "I am Cozy" tea, which was a perfect blend of honey, lemon, ginger and cayenne. The "I am Thankful" soup was a cold coconut curry blend with zing and flavor. The I am Satisfied salad topped the meal, and I left the restaurant exclaming, "I am coming back!"

Yum!

Cafe Grattitude is the best restaurant on Earth. It's all raw food, which means almost nothing on the menu is cooked, or even heated. And it's all sooooo flavorful. If you've never had raw food, you may be thinking, raw vegetables? Ew. But you're so wrong. I took my father, a steak and potatoes guy, and he told had the same reaction... until he tried the food. After he'd eaten there, he said he wouldn't blame me if I ate there every day In addition to the incredibly spicey, sweet and/or all around flavorful food, the dishes are named things like, 'I am Abundant.' And when they serve you the food they normally say, 'You are abundant,' or 'You are flurishing,' or whatever the dish name is. After all, you are what you eat... and if you eat here you'll be wonderful!

This Place RAWks!!

I love this place... first of all, you get to sit community style, meaning you share a table with strangers, who are no longer strangers by the end of your meal. The really great part of CG is that the food is so delicious and satisfying that you don't even miss the fact that you are not eating cooked food.

As Good as it Gets

Cafe Gratitude covers every aspect of good business, good service, and the highest quality, healthy food available. They are committed to pioneering these fields, and it comes through the vibe of their employees, their restaurants, and through the food itself. With a simple spiritual message of gratitude, abundance, and presence infused into their infrastructure and presentation, it seems the food would have a hard time measuring up. Not-so surprisingly, this is not the case. Despite the allergy-friendly, predominantly raw, and all vegan menu, the food is rich, flavorful, creative, and downright yummy! The desserts are in my opinion the most revolutionary element in the world of health-food; "guilt-free pleasure." For those who are not accustomed to raw meals, expectations are best left at the door. This is the best way to ensure a truly magical experience, which is not uncommon when in a space of Gratitude.
