Iron Seeding is a Bad Idea

I don't know too much about most aspects of this company, but i do know that they are behind the current push to seed our oceans with iron in order to encourage giant plankton blooms that will eat up excess carbon dioxide in the air.

While this seems like a great idea, I would like to remind everyone that whenever we do something like this there are going to be ramifications we can't possibly predict. It is possible that the ramifications of this could be nothing and we could help stop global warming. Or, the plankton blooms could over oxygenate the oceans and entire populations of fish could die. Or something we can't even imagine will happen, because hey, lets admit it, we haven't the slightest idea how to keep nature in a state of homeostasis.

Nature is the worlds best filter. Only nature understands the complete process of what is involved in cleaning herself up, and only she can attack the problem from all sides.

Global warming has happened before, usually as the result of some catastrophe (a volcano explosion, an earthquake), and every time nature has fixed the problem. We need to stop making climate change worse (KYOTO PLEASE?), stop trying to fix something we don't understand, and stop stressing nature out so she can do her job.

Erase your Carbon Footprint

Planktos Inc, a carbon capture, ecosystem restoration company, offers an affordable and ecologically sensitive way to offset personal and business carbon emissions. Using iron to stimulate plankton blooms in the open ocean, and working on reforestation projects around the world, planktos offers a unique way to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere, while restoring and preserving the land, air and oceans for generations.
