Quick, all raw, whole grain breakfast cereal.
BuyI recently read about chia in an Ideal Bite tip (check out reviews for Ideal Bite on Sustain Lane). I learned that it's great source of omega-3s (more than flax), and a good source of fiber, calcium, and protein. Yes, it's the same chia you know from Chia Pets! After reading about Ruth's Chia Goodness product, I ran across it at a local natural grocer. I decided to try the apple almond cinnamon flavor.
It tastes great! All of the flavors include chia, hemp seeds, buckwheat and salt. Aside from the obvious additions in the apple almond cinnamon flavor, it has raisins and a little bit of cane sugar. The flavor tastes great to me -- it's nutty with a nice amount of sweetness. The apples and raisins had a good texture -- tasted fresh and not overly chewy. You don't have to heat Chia Goodness or mix it with a hot liquid -- you can mix it in any liquid, hot or cold. I've tried it in rice milk and yogurt. You just wait a few minutes and enjoy. The chia takes on a sort of gooey texture (sort of like a flatter tapioca pearl), but I liked it. Now if I could just find the cranberry ginger variety locally!
The biggest downside is the price. I paid about $6 for a 12 oz bag. The price online is $7.50.
