make the most of what we've got
We all love and hate the CTA, it gets us to work, sometimes late, sometimes early. The buses are crowded, but it's better than walking in snow and rain. The fares are going up, yet overall it's cheaper than owning a car, and most importantly to me, better for the environment. It certainly isn't New York City, with a subway system that works, is affordable and apparently on-time. Or Paris, with a system that should make us all jealous. But it is what we have and we should use it, and do what we can to try and improve it. That means staying involved, and active, and voting for the people and referendums that will help fix and improve, extend and expand this system we are so dependant on. Biking is a great alternative for some, so is walking if you can. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Review of the CTA
The CTA is a practical method of getting around the greater Chicago area. It is cost effective and has the appropriate stops for people getting to specific destinations. With that being said, there are certain improvements. First, the El trains should have be more clean. A filthy interior not only puts off the daily rider, but also the numerous visitors who come to the Chicago area for their myriad of reasons. Also, delays of the trains should be mitigated. This means that any and all possible disturbances should be dealt with immediately and effectively. There are going to be delays on the El, its a century old system of travel, however this does mean that these delays should become commonplace or "business-as-usual". Moving onto buses, buses serve where the El's cannot and do a massive job. The bus system as well must be clean and service must be regular. this means maintenance of the buses must be regular and even above regular to insure buses do not break down

The CTA although slow at times due to constant construction is a great alternative to driving around the city.

CTA needs to get its act together
One of the reasons I live in Chicago is because of what is supposed to be ready access to public transit. In reality, however, public transit has proven less convenient than driving - the opposite of what it should be. It is now more expensive to take a ride on the red line round trip downtown than it is to drive and park at some meters.
The bus schedules are abominable - or should I say the driver's adherence to them. Some buses don't show up for a good half hour after they are scheduled.
That is absurd.
