I designed the ChicoBag to fit in a pocket after I visited a local landfill here in Chico, California back in 2004. I was disgusted with all the unnecessary waste. What stuck out to me was all the plastic bags. They were blowing around, stuck on fences and tie-downs and the birds were pecking them. At that moment, I decided to start a CONSISTENT reusable bag habit. I had a habit of forgetting my canvas totes in my car! I knew I could design a bag that was easy to use and easy to remember. My design is strong, machine washable, colorful, hip and able to be with you all the time and especially when you least expect to need a bag. I started selling ChicoBags on Earth Day of 2005 in front of my local co-op. My motivation and goal is to help humanity kick the single-use bag habit and adopt a healthy reusable bag habit. This is the custom bag we made for Whole Foods.

these bags are so awesome! I love that they are light weight and stuff into it's own attached sack, which is so small it fits almost anywhere. I keep one in my hand bag and one in the glove box. That way I always have one handy for those unplanned quick trips to the store. I also really like the new colors and the ones printed with a picture of the Earth saying "We Are One" ... "helping humanity kid the single use bag habit"
at least at the store I puchase them from they cost under $4, and worth every penny!!!

I do love the concept, I use the bag all the time. When I walk my dog I clip it to my belt, when I make a quick stop or buy something unexpected I now can always say, No thanks I have a bag. I love that. However, all three of my Chico bags have begun to unravel at the seams after about 5 uses. I have tried to mend them myself but I am not a practiced sewer so it is more of a temporary hold. Each time I use one I cross my fingers that it isn't going to come undone. But they fit so well in a purse or backpack that I still use them and don't regret the purchase. I will probably look for an different brand for my next purchase though.

You should check out Flip and Tumble bags. They are brand new, and are kind of an upgrade to Chico Bags (gotta admit, I still love my chico :) more »
I truly love this product. I enjoy the way that it folds into itself in its own little pouch....I love the keyring...I love how lightweight it is... I love the variety of colors...the size...the heavy weight-load it can handle....and I truly love how it helps our environment!

I have used my chico bag a few times. They are great because they pack up into a teeny little packet to carry along with you, and then when you need to wash them they don't wrinkle up like some cheap cotton bags do. I am docking them one star for being made of nylon, not as ecofriendly as some other options.

I love this bag! It is so easy to just stuff into it's little pocket and throw into my messanger bag without it taking up any room! It unfolds easily into a nice-sized bag and folds back up just as easy. I would highly recommend this bag to anyone!

I must have about 15 nylon mesh and canvas grocery totes. The canvas totes multiply as quickly as free t-shirts these days, and they are given away at tech conferences and green conferences. The canvas bags bear the names of websites, magazines and software on them. I think I even got a little one with the name of some bank in Alameda a year or so ago. I have so many that I leave a pile in the trunk of my car for groceries, and still have a pile in the closet that I rotate out for other uses.
I'm reluctant to accept any more canvas bags but when I first saw these Chico bags - I was impressed. I own two now, and they are very convenient to stuff in my pocket for unexpected bag needs. They are a bit smaller than some of my canvas grocery totes (which shrink like the dickens if you have to wash them) but much lighter and more compact.

We have 5 Chico bags that we bought close to 2 years ago. They're fantastic for shopping as they hold much more than a typical plastic bag of the same size (they can hold more weight). They are also small enough for my wife to shove a couple in her purse and always keep them in the glove box of the car.
I also have an ACME which I think is great for the male. The bags are more compact and easy to stick in your coat or pocket.

I looove my ChicoBag. I think more than the bag itself, I love the concept. I have tons of reusable tote shopping bags that I bring with me on big shopping trips. But it was the "quick trip on the way home from work/school/day at the park" that would always catch me without a bag. Not anymore! I keep this in my purse at all times. My only complaint- i need more... one for every purse ;)

When I first started bringing cloth bags to the grocery store, I used to get frustrated because I often forgot. However, the Chico Bag is great because it bunches up super tiny and is really convenient to bring with you everywhere! Other reviewers seem to be bummed that these bags cost $5 but if you add up the extra money that stores charge nowadays for plastic bags, you'll realize a return on your investment in no time. I also think it looks pretty spiffy, I like the brown/blue lettering combo.

I got one of these from the LOHAS 11 conference and have gotten complimented on it the 2 times I've used it so far. The coolest part about this bag is that you can squish it into a little ball that can fit in your pocket so you can take it with you and not worry about it taking up space.
I think it's super convenient and carry it with me every where! You can buy one for $5 on their website.

I'll start with the positives about Chico Bags. They are a great design---an 18X15 nylon bag that folds into an extremely compact integrated pouch. They're inexpensive. (If you order 4, they cost less than $5 for a bag that you can use again and again!) They have a nifty drawstring closure with a plastic toggle as well as a carbiner clip to hook the bag onto your backpack or purse. They come in nice, earthy colors. But, if you've been using canvas sacks for a while, you might want to spend a bit more money on the Acme Workhorse. I got both both in order to compare them, and, as soon as I opened them, I decided to keep both of the Acme 1500s and give the Chicos as gifts. The Acme Workhorse does lack some of the pizzazz of the Chico (no toggle, no caribiner) but the quality of the rip-stop nylon, the comfort handles, and the durability of the bag more than make up for it. Chico Bags are good, but the Acme 1500 is GREAT so buy your own caribiner clip and go for the real deal.

I purchased a couple of Chico bags and am not overly impressed. At $5.00, I found them somewhat overpriced for the quality/fashion. I did however give them to my son and his girlfriend to put on their back packs and as bike riding college students, they love them.

I bought a Chico bag for my mother. While inexpensive (~$5 per bag), it was somewhat unstylish so she continues to use plastic bags at the grocery store.
