Quantity, yes. Variety no.

I'm sad to report that we cannot recommend the Chubby Bunny CSA to anyone but those looking for sheer quantity of food. On the plus side, there is a great amount of food offered each week for your share, but on the negative, it is nearly identical in content week after week, and it is ALWAYS run of the mill stuff. We have received Swiss chard for 12 out of 14 weeks, zucchini for 7 out of 14, onions, cucumbers, eggplant, a few herbs, carrots, potatoes, kale, beets occasionally, turnips a few times, and that's basically it. Just the basic cheap stuff you find in any supermarket in America, and that even the most basic cook would find pedestrian after a while. No pea shoots, no cranberry beans, no exotic leafy stuff...nothing unusual ever. The fruit share has been so-so - peaches for the last 5 weeks, apples the first 4 weeks when apples were clearly out of season (and tasted as such!), no blueberries, very sour blackberries once, cherries for just one week when this year was supposed to a be bumper crop year for cherries, lots of plums and apricots. Only the cheap stuff that is readily available anywhere!

We have complained to the CSA managers directly and were told that the farmer is generally on the boring end of the spectrum - I only wish we would have known that before signing up. We will look elsewhere next year for something that offers more inspiration.
