The Formula 409 cleaner I have is the basic one, not a disinfectant and no bleach. It just happens to be great at cleaning scummy kitchen surfaces. I'd really would like to know the truth about its effects on the environment, before I give it up. The bottle I have doesn't look like the one shown here. Any information on this? Any favorite alternatives for cleaning kitchen scum?

I am at a total loss at why anybody concerned with sustainability would generously give 5 stars. This is a product that I would use as a last result. could it be that the company has somebody is plugging their product hoping that somebody who uses sustainlane is gullible?

This product and many others like it, does more harm to the environment than I can describe. It contains toxic chemicals such as chlorine bleach, and others with easy to pronounce names as Monoethanolamine...all of which are washed down our drains, end up in landfills, contaminate our air and lungs and skin. These products come with Material Safety Data Sheets, that describe all of their hazards. See Seventh Generation, Ecover and other entries on this site for healthy alternatives, for you and your family, for the air, water, plants and animals, and ultimately for your pocketbook too.
