Coffee Filters aren't just for your coffee anymore

Who needs paper towels, when you have coffee filters?

Coffee filters ....who knew and they are at every dollar store. Hmmm...several good ideas and probably cheaper and more Eco friendly than paper towels.

COFFEE FILTER USES:

1) Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave if you do not have a reusable plastic cover, a coffee filter makes an excellent spatter cover.

2) Clean windows and mirrors. Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling. The same is true of newspaper, use then recycle.

3) Protect China by putting a coffee filter between each dish.

4) Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.

5) Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust. I reuse one coffee filter between sauce pans when storing to avoid scratches.

6) Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter and apply.

7) Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.

8) Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.

9) Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.

10) Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.

11) Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.

12) Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters.

13) Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, french fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. Soaks out all the grease.

14) Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick" fixers.

Remember, buy the natural filters, the brown ones. They have not been bleached white. Greens Girls of Karmafarmonline are all about saving money AND the environment! Do you have other creative uses for coffee filters? Let us know.

These are great ideas! I like the filter broken cork from wine and strain frying oil. One more thing: compost them when you're through with them!

I used coffee filters to filter my homemade vanilla extract. Then I let the filter dry and put the vanilla pieces into some sugar to make vanilla sugar. Mmmmmm.

Good for you, repurposing and reusing! I have many great tips I have developed in my long life. My fave at the moment: When I eat out, I take a tupperware container for my leftovers. I don't care if someone gives me a look. It often starts a great mini-conversation. Down with styrofoam!

Great ideas for more coffee filters uses. Thanks for the imput and please if you have any more eco tips share them with us. Awesome Idea about the tupperware Jacqueline, I wish more resturants would get on the green movement. Styrofoam is a complete waste of money in my opinion. Please recommend to your local eateries that containers made of corn, or sugar are now more affordable then many years in the past.
