My little feet adorned with white patent leather shoes dangled from the hard wooden church bench. I can still remember the blue tattered hymn books with pages trimmed red that we sang from. Everybody sang jubilantly from the depth of their souls. I could still hear some of the songs, such as “When we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be”. I couldn’t understand why they didn’t like being here on planet Earth. Didn’t they like it? I inwardly questioned as a child. Then, when I became an adult, I, too, made sure I was going to join them up in heaven. But in the meantime, I was stuck here on planet Earth and now couldn’t understand why they seemed to ignore the scripture, “I came that you may have abundant life….” Was this “abundant life” in heaven only? If so, Jesus would have just stayed there and waited for us, right? Thus, began my quest to enjoy the life God has given us.
This life encapsulates us. The entire universe sings God’s praises. With all the planets and their galaxies, the trees and their flowers, and bumble bees, and hummingbirds, varied colored butterflies, jewels of islands in the ocean, and the list goes on and on, it is certainly a beautiful world. Yet, we are so busy working, caught up in the spinning wheel called life that we forget that there are stars in the sky. We live tense lives, becoming shallow breathers as our oxygen, too, becomes depleted around us. We live toxic stressed lives compounded by toxins in the environment and in our foods. We take fewer walks outdoor, choosing to be chained to our computers instead. In a nutshell, we have become disconnected individuals, separated from the garden in which God left us in charge of. LiveLiving.org, as its name suggests, aims to help believers, in particular, live life in color: to live cognitively and passionately on Earth whilst carrying out their purposes in life.
Fitness
Marilyn, one of my online clients, at age 51, has been exercising for the first time since leaving high school. But one day I had to question her about her walking buddy, her husband. Every Wednesday, she would share with me the walks she and her husband were taking down to the lake. I finally asked Marilyn if this exercising time was actually their date. Of course, she flat out denied that it was anything but romantic, but the walks to the lake clearly became a way for them to spend time with each other. Marilyn is becoming more fit now, taking in more oxygen as a result of starting an exercise program. Moreover, Marilyn is excited that she is changing her life for the better and as a result now desires to share with other women the importance of living a fit life.
Well Being
Our wellbeing is just as important as living a fit life. Being able to see the magnitude of God in His creation increases our faith. When our faith increases our well being receives a boost. Instead of worrying about the issues of our lives, we trust God to take care of them. After all, if a God can create such a brilliant world, hanging the stars in the right place, or balancing the planets in the heavens, then we certainly can have the confidence that God is more than able to handle our problems. Our faith in God gives us the peace in an ever changing world.
Nutrition
Eating the right food also aids us in living a life of harmony. When we eat from God’s table, that is, His fruits, vegetables, and grains, we intake the life force of God. The foods God provides for us are not processed. They are natural and given to us for energy to carry out our good works (Ephesians 2:10). In addition, they contain healing properties. We tend to be more alert and light when our diet consists largely of fruits and vegetables in comparison to its counterpart, sugars and fats, which tend to leave us drowsy and ‘weighted down’.
Reconnecting Mind, Body and Spirit to God
The love of God is interwoven in His creation. Loving God encompasses our mind, body and spirit, so that when we reconnect to Him, we also reconnect to the earth from which we came. To live abundantly, therefore, means also to live responsibly as a steward of His creation.
