I don't normally groove on flea market or thrift shopping, but every trip to Community Forklift is a surprise! They have the oddest collection of salvaged material and the prices are too good not to take advantage of something. Whether it's carpet tiles and appliances or green building materials (insulation, in my case), it's all very reasonable. Don't go in with a shopping list, just go with your eyes open and your creative juices flowing. The staff is very helpful and friendly and show an obvious love for their task.

Community Forklift is a for-profit venture of sustainable community initiatives, It represents an ongoing commitment of its owner Jim Schulman to create a retail store that recycles building materials both small and large scale. There 20,000 square foot warehouse contains too many bargains to list in this review, but, in short, you can buy anything for half of what you would pay at Home Depot or Lowe's. I encourage you to visit the store website

Community forklift sells used and new (overstock and left-over) building materials, and soon they will be selling a line of green products including house paints. Besides saving money on home improvements you will be doing the earth a favor... You can buy (among other things) windows, doors, flooring, tubs, sinks, and MUCH more.

Community forklift is one of a multitude of programs that takes in used construction and other household items and then sells them at a very significant discount. Some products are new and others are heavily or gently used. Products include appliances, windows, doors, flooring, wood and hardware.... everything you need for your home project. Save and Re-use and don't feed the corporate beast. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. Much of the staff is composed of locals who need a job, so you are supporting the community and projecting the environment. It is very much like the habitat for community centers. Pittsburgh halls have a great program called construction junction.
