Dr. Bronner Sues Competitors Over Use of the Word Organic

As many of you probably know, there is currently no standard what-so-ever in place for what standards a cosmetic product must meet in order to be labeled "Organic." Unlike food labeling, which is strictly controlled by the USDA, no one oversees this type of cosmetic labeling. Chances are you have some organic cosmetics in your house right now that are labeled as organic and have plenty of non-organic crap and parabens in them.

Since no federal authority has stood up yet and tried to actually do the job of consumer advocates - protecting the consumer - Dr. Bronner has filed this lawsuit in the hopes that the courts will make a federal agency step up. I doubt that this will actually solve anything - we will probably have to wait for the next administration (hopefully it will be one that cares about important issues like this and not fake threats of terrorism). However, i applaud Dr. Bronner for his actions, and hope that some good will come out of this whole situation.
