Green, but not great

I was excited to purchase the Patagonia Drifter, among the super-green company's first line of footwear. The Drifter has a lot of material in it that's recycled, including a Vibram sole made from (up to) 30 percent recycled rubber. The sole rocks - it looks practically new after many trail miles. As is going to be the case with a first-run for a new product, the Drifter has its problems. The shoelaces bunched up almost immediately, making it impossible to pull them through the lacing holes. The letters spelling Patagonia fell off! Worst of all, on one of my first hikes, I walked through some wet grass and it soaked my shoes thoroughly - and I spent the rest of the day with wet feet because they never dried out! A $110 pair of shoes, and they're not even water *resistant*? When I called Patagonia to return them, they told me that I would have to send them in and let them decide if they would accept the return. My suggestion is this: wait until round 2 of Patagonia's shoe line and buy them at a local shop where you should be able to return them if you have any problems.
