Ecobike Vatavio is great

Been riding it to work for two months and I love it. My 2.5 mile ride has long hills, but with this bike I ride in work clothes and don't have to change. Compared to a scooter, an e-bike is better because it's quiet; I can ride it on sidewalks, bike lanes, and bike trails, avoiding traffic; I can maintain it myself like any bike; and I still get some exercise.

Pros:
+ Pedal assist works great; the throttle is also nice to have sometimes.
+ Comes well equipped with rear rack, straps, chain guard, fenders, seat post shock absorber, lights, bell, and kickstand.
+ Frame is very well constructed and rigid (for a folding bike).
+ Feels stable and comfortable with an upright riding position.
+ Six gears are perfect for commuting. Well geared for traffic and hills, though not for going fast on level ground.

Cons:
+ The folding pedals are made of cheap brittle metal, broke on day two from bumping a signpost. Replaced with regular pedals and toe clips.
+ Battery level indicator is almost useless. Stays on 5/5 bars for 15+ miles and only switches to 4/5 bars when battery is almost empty.
+ Although it folds up, at 50 lbs only a tall and strong person can carry it regularly. To be fair, I don't see how it could be made much lighter.

Wish list:
+ Seat post should be longer. I'm 6'1" and have to extend the seat post about 2" past the limit.
+ Would be nice to have mounts for a bottle cage.

I got mine from nycewheels.com - they have a great site with details on lots of bikes.

Love, love, love my ecobike!

I live 4 miles from work, and until I bought my EcoBike, I was commuting with my Vespa (because of the mild weather in San Diego, I can get by without owning a car). I occasionally rode a regular bike to work, but didn't like to do it much because it's a hilly (read: difficult) ride, and I am often very tired and very sweaty after the commute. An electric bike is perfect for me because 1) it gives me a boost up those more difficult hills, 2) allows me to pedal as much or as little as I want, 3) allows me to arrive to work without needing a shower, and 4) makes me more inclined to ride my bike to work everyday. In fact, since owning the bike, I have used it more than my scooter, which ultimately means that I'm getting more exercise! Good for me, good for the planet!

I'm jazzed about the Vatavio! It is the least expensive of the three models at $1,625.00. Also, the really cool feature about the Vatavio is that it folds in half and has 20-inch wheels versus the Elegance and Adventure... more »

Eco-Friendly and Convenient

I'm just another "greenie", like most of you I do my part to help the environment...compost heap, renew, reuse, recycle, etc... Last year I decided that my almost 40 miles one way commute to work was certainly not good for the environment or my pocketbook (due to insanely high gas prices), so I decided to do something about it. I found a new job much closer to home to reduce my commute to 10 miles each way, but then I still felt bad about driving my old "pollution mobile" so I decided to commute by bike. I went to my local bike shop to buy a bike and was shown a few electric bikes. I test rode the different models and was really impressed with the Ecobike Vatavio. Not only was this bike electric, making my bike commute to work a blast, but it folds up so I can put in my trunk and take it along with me on long trips! I have saved a TON of money not buying gas! I have been very happy with my Ecobike! Now I have fun commuting to work and don't feel guilty because I no longer need to drive my car unless I have to travel far. The bike is great! Although I do wish that it came with a basket and that it was available in more than just the 1 color they make it in. If anyone wants here is the company's web site address: www.ecobike-usa.com
