Making use of byproduct...

Similar to the Coir pots I reviewed, EcoWare products are made "bagasse" -- the sugarcane fibers that are an agricultural by-product from sugar mills. They turn this into paper for disposable paper products. It's positively brilliant that they use a byproduct from existing agricultural processes and that NO TREES are used in creating these products.

They also offer a limited range of unbleached bagasse products which are even more "environmentally benign." All these products are FDA approved and are compostable -- don't just throw them into the trash, but put them in your compost heap!

According to the website, these products are available for wholesale use - not retail. I've seen them in use in offices and can attest to their durability. If you manage a school, office or some other institution - please consider this as an eco-friendly option to disposable kitchenwares.

In the Loop

Thanks for writing this review of Ecoware's compostable tableware. I saw this product a couple years ago at an environmental home show, and was very interested in switching to their eco-ware to reduce waste at home, at parties, and when picnicking. But, unfortunately, I had lost their name and contact information. I just dropped them an email, thanks to you!

Compostable alternative to disposal food container

Thank you for providing a compostable alternative to disposable food containers. I am very happy to have been introduced to these products. i had a lot of fun today as a volunteer for the green team and helping the attendees at the GreenFestival sort the waste. Everyone seemed so excited that the utensils could be compostable. i can not wait until this product is available in most supermarkets. I am looking forward to converting my mother, the queen of disposal cups, plate, and utensils to using these products.
Thank you!

Composte is Awesome

What an amazing way to go "full circle" in that trash can go through a process that allows us to obtain plates, silverware, etc. Fantastic for the environment and very sustainable. I thank the people that came up with the technology AND the idea! There's way too much trash out trash out there - let's help ourselves!
