A free service, Evite.com estimates it saves party planners millions of dollars in paper invitations.
I like Evite. It is easy to use and as long as your friends check email, then it works. You can change the way the invitation looks and even upload your own photos. It's good for the planet in the sense that it replaces traditional invitations.
Part of me is a little sad that people barely use traditional invitations any more though. They just seem more fun.
I've been a user of Evite for as long as it has been out - about 10 years, perhaps. I love the convenience, the flexibility and the ability to look up past events and cross reference people and events.
However, it does have a way to go -- security, namely. My free email account set up just to field Evites has become a HUGE spam trap. Whenever someone inadvertently Evites to one of my personal e-mail addresses, I find myself doing damage control (my gmail account is now full of spam). I get the sense that there are some gaps -- spammers are somehow able to grab e-mail address information and it's not a safe place on the internet for me.
Personal e-mails or phone calls are still the way to go. Then again, my parties aren't all that big....

We just used Evite to create and email out our BBQ/Baby Shower invitations to family and friends that have an email address. The service is free. Evite is very easy to use and customize with some great features that include RSVP confirmations, event updating and sending out reminders. You can import contacts into your address book, and upload a photo, that the program will resize for you, allows you to personalize you color scheme and party theme, and gives you the option to include links (we linked to gift registries). Evite is a terrific green solution that will save you time and money, as well! I emailed Evite and asked them to include eco-party ideas to their list of party planning suggestions.

Thanks for giving us a heads-up Jenn. I haven't run into this problem so far, neither has my daughter, but we are relatively new to the Evite experience. more »
