The fall season is all about change. As the leaves change color and fall from their branches, it is a good idea to ‘fall out’ of your old skincare habits and make subtle changes to help you look your best as the days grow shorter.

Because your skin secrets a lower quanitity of natural oils during this season than in the warm summer months, you are bound to experience some dryness. Replenishing your skin’s natural moisture will keep it soft and help prevent chapping. There are plenty of seasonal foods that you can incorporate into your daily skincare routine. And although they are all quite delicious, resist the temptation to eat them. I am talking about feeding your skin, not your stomach!

My favorite fall skincare ingredient is pumpkin. Not only is it high in vitamin A, C, zinc and antioxidants but practically all varieties of the fruit (indeed pumpkin is a fruit) have wonderful moisturizing properties. Here are a couple of my favorite pumpkin skincare recipes:

Pumpkin Face Mask

  • 2 Tbs cooked pumpkin
  • 1 Tbs honey

Mix well and apply all over your face. Leave for about 10-15 minutes before washing off.

Pumpkin Body Scrub

  • ½ C pumpkin, cooked and pureed
  • ½ C brown sugar

Mix well and apply to your body using gentle, circular motions. Then rinse off with warm water.
