Rich & Creamy Fauxstess Twinkeys
I saw the reviews for these on VeganEssentials (http://www.veganessentials.com) and was very intrigued. Vegan Twinkeys? I had to try them, and to justify that order, included a pair of shoes. And more candy to taste test for reviews here.
I have to confess -- I wasn't very impressed by my first Fauxstess Twinkey. I didn't realize that they are stored cold and the first one was a bit chilly and clammy. My co-worker, Adam, quite liked the heavy richness. I talked with Courtney at VeganEssentials and she recommended letting them warm totally to room temperature. I left one out overnight and the filling was much fluffier feeling in my mouth than the chilly one. I also froze and sliced one -- that went very nicely with chai for breakfast.
The filling of these is basically shortening -- it's not a light treat. The cake is spongey and it's a lot denser and richer than a regular Twinkey. Don't order these expecting the same experience -- but don't pass them up, they are a good treat!
