I've owned my 2008 Honda Fit Sport for over one year, and I could not be happier with this car. Because it's a Honda, it has not had any mechanical issues, which is the most important thing with car ownership (no unexpected expenses). Secondly, the mileage is better than advertised--mine does better than 27 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway, although I do hyper-mile to extend each gallon of gasoline as much as possible. Another major benefit to owning a Fit is its space. It has so much more useable space than comparable compact cars because of its square shape and fold-down back seats. I've been able to stick all sorts of things in this car and take them around the city. The Fit is also very drivable; it has good power, handles very well, and can be parked in very small spaces, which is a boon when living in a crowded city. In short, if you're in the market for a small, affordable car that performs well, the Honda Fit Sport will be worth looking at, especially since it sells for less than $18,000.

We were in need of an inexpensive vehicle that could tote large amounts of supplies for my small business. A friend of mine had done a ton of research and decided on the Fit and after questioning her extensively and checking it out for myself, we decided on the Fit.
It's hard to find a compact car that could double as a delivery vehicle, but the Fit is perfect for this. The seats are called "magic seats" and fold completely flat. Perfect for our needs. We also live in the city, so the small size is GREAT for parking.
I recently had to make a long trip out of state and my mileage was 41 mpg! That was without checking my tire pressure before leaving, as it was an unexpected trip with no time for prep.
We have the Fit Sport, manual transmission. While we won't win any street races, the pick-up is sufficient. If you can't afford a hybrid or need the cargo room of a small SUV, but the price of a compact, I couldn't recommend a better vehicle!

We wrestled with the idea of hybrid vs a small car. We ultimately decided that with the amount that we drive (ie: too much for car sharing, not enough to make a hybrid worthwhile on gas mileage savings) we couldn't justify spending the extra $10,000 for a Toyota Prius, our first-choice for a hybrid. So we went with a Honda Fit Sport. We love it. It gets great mileage, and since we live in the city without garage parking, it's small enough to park anywhere. We're big fans!

I know two people who have the Honda Fit and they absolutely love them. I like how the back seats flip up (for tall things like conga drums in cases) or down to make the back entirely open. more »
