Overpriced Sugar Water

The first time I saw this stuff, I was with a date (who would also casually drop $10K on Prada, but that's another story - some people will waste money on anything). He espoused the benefits and the taste of this stuff. It tasted like lightly flavored water.

When short of options, I will go for the lemonade or cucumber version rather than buying Dasani filtered water or soda when I'm on the road or out and about. The best I can say is - "At least it's not Gatorade."

This product is just another in a long line of trendy bottled water/juice drinks -- save your money and make your own and carry it in a reusable container.

"It's snake oil," said Stephen Lower, a retired chemistry professor from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, who runs a Web site on "water-related pseudoscience, fantasy and quackery" (www.chem1.com/CQ/). "There is no evidence that you can change the structure of water," he said in a phone interview.

Be sure to check out Stephen Lower's website, linked above - terrible web design but great info.

what's the big deal?

This water has 13 grams of sugar in it. It's not bad, I mean, I'll have it every once in a while, and it's better than all of the artificially flavored junk health beverages out there. But I don't think there's anything to write home about Vitamin Water, other than that the bottles and packaging are pretty. It's funny, this drink goes into this whole thing about "Focus" on the side, and how the Vitamin A in it will help your cornea. Give me a break. Also, there's no mention of using recycled plastic rather than virgin on their bottles, which leads me to question their intent at billing themselves as green and great.
