I knew I was likely to appreciate this product even before I bought and tried it. Any person trying to make sustainable choices should appreciate an option to reduce plastic use -- and plastic straws are everywhere. While it's possible to just drink straight from a cup and skip the straw, there are some things that are really best sipped... and that's where reusable straws come to the rescue of the green consumer!
I purchased a set of four "beautiful bends" and four "simple elegance" (straight) straws, as well as a "cozy" (fleece carrying pouch). They work exactly like a straw should -- you suck, liquid comes up and goes in your mouth :-) Cleaning is easy thanks to a cleaning brush (included free if you get a set of four or six), and they're dishwasher safe as well.
While the outer diameter is a little thicker than a "normal" straw, it is extremely easy to get used to. I gave a couple to my aunt, who years ago gave up drinking with straws to cut down on HER plastic use, and she was thrilled to be able to sip through a straw again.
Glass Dharma's founder lays out the reasons quite clearly himself:
* Glass straws don’t leach toxins into your food as you drink.
* Each time you use your glass straw equals one less plastic straw ending up in your landfill.
* One glass straw replaces thousands of plastic straws. (How many times will you use a straw the rest of your life?)
* Using your glass drinking straw adds a feeling of beauty to your day.
With all those benefits -- not to mention a lifetime guarantee EVEN IF YOU BREAK IT YOURSELF -- why NOT get some?

Glass drinking straws by GlassDharma add purpose and elegance to drink-ware when served with any beverage you can think of! Reusable and easy to clean, these straws are one solution to plastics leaching toxins into food and drink.
Available in different sizes: “iced tea” (99.5mmX8”), “smoothy” (12mmX8”) and “sipper” (7mmX6.25”) these straws have become popular in our household.
The “iced tea” sized straw is a favorite for sodas, water, and lemon-aid. Even for chocolate milk! The clink of the straw against the ice as you stir the iced tea and the feel of glass on the lips have family members reaching for them every time!
The “smoothy” size is best for extra thick milk shakes and smoothies!
“Sippers” are perfect for sipping Martinis!
GlassDharma offers different styles within this line of glass drinking straws.
Selections of styles include:
Decorative Dots - Colored “dots” adorn these straws and keep them from rolling around when placed on a flat surface. The design is useful for color-coding individual beverage servings and adds color coordination to serve-ware and beverage color.
Simple Elegance - speaks for itself as a simply classic look to enhance every type of drink-ware with the same reliable functionality.
Beautiful Bends – has a slight and graceful “bend” to the design and is about 1” longer.
Sippers – made especially for sipping juices, cocktails and even wine, this petite straw is stronger than you might think with an extra heavy wall design.
Straws by GlassDharma are made of durable borosilicate glass and fully annealed for a much higher tensile strength than ordinary glass. Suitable for hot or cold drinks, they withstand fluctuating temperatures as well as normal handling and cleaning of food and beverage utensils (dishwasher safe).
A manufacturer Lifetime Guarantee Against Breakage backs all of the glass drinking straws by GlassDharma.
