Dr. Richard Cheel joined the Disaster Alter! series, presented by Crabtree Publishing Company, and wrote a 32-page book about Global Warming. He wrote if for his own children, and to all children ages 9-12. Within the covers of this book, kids learn about dramatic changes in our climate, why things are heating up, and lessons learned. They learn about a drought in Kenya, the Larson B floating ice shelf in Antarctica, the thawing permafrost in Siberia, parched cornfields in North Dakota, the melting of Grinnell Glacier in Glacier National Park in Montana, and more Disaster Alerts.
Kids are give an opportunity to learn about their own impact on the environment. They are asked four questions with point values, which they use to calculate their own footprint. They are left with some tips on what they can do to reduce their footprint.
