Choosing to be environmentally-friendly is becoming a way of life when it comes to the choices we make for our family and ourselves, friends and the environment.

Meanwhile, our furry friends are often exposed to dangerous levels of toxins because of the choices we make for them. Here’s three easy ways can we make sure our best

First, it’s a good idea to consider switching to organic foods. Pets are often exposed to growth hormones, synthetic fertilizers and antibiotics in conventional dog food. You can talk to your veterinarian about which brands and formulations he or she recommends.

Another healthy tip is to battle fleas the nontoxic way. Jennifer Sas, PhD., senior health and environmental scientist at the National Resources Defense Council estimates that “hundreds and probably thousands” of pets have been injured or killed because of the contents in conventional pest control methods. “The Environmental Protection Agency has acknowledged that these products pose unsafely high exposure to children because they touch, rub, kiss and sleep with their pets,” she says.

Lastly, buy toys & dog beds for your best buddy that are made in the United States. There have been reports that foreign-made pet products contain lead and cadmium, which are harmful to animals over time because these metals can affect their nervous system, blood cells and bowels.

Our pets and our planet depend on us to do the right thing. Just a few changes is all it takes to do what’s best for the environment and our best friend.
