Google’s partnership with eight electric utility companies (six in the United States, one in India and one in Canada) is another example of Google’s quest to organize global information into easy-to-use programs. Google has released the program to testers, and once the company implements any modifications, the system will be offered to the public. The release date is still uncertain.
Google PowerMeter technology operates close to real time anywhere in the world. Homeowners can track which appliances are sucking the most energy and when an appliance is on or off. This will help homeowners better control their electrical consumption by visually tracking their use through charts on their computer screens. Also, when homeowners are away, they can see if an appliance or light has been left on.
Google’s partnership includes Wisconsin Public Services, White River Valley Electric Cooperative, JEA, TXU Energy, San Diego Gas & Electric and Glasgow EPB.
