A Gem of a Farmers Market

The Grand Lake Farmers Market is really in a great location -- it's near a Y-intersection of two great retail shopping strips, and just a few steps from Lake Merritt. The vendors are all the usual suspects you see at other farmers markets -- plenty of options for organic produce, bread, smoked salmon and prepared foods. There isn't the same kind of "festival" atmosphere as at the Berkeley Farmer's market with multiple musicians playing -- but that's ok, too.

All the vendors at the Grand Lake Farmers Market are friendly and nothing is really second rate. If you don't live in the neighborhood, make a date to pick up goodies for a brunch picnic at Lake Merritt from this Farmers Market for a really charming East Bay experience.

Very good Saturday market!!!

Hey everyone,
I love the Grand Lake farmers market because it's jam packed with good food vendors. I also hit Temescal since it's closer to where I live. The meat guy is great and broke off a little piece for me to try out since it was my first time there. Half a pound of yummy grass-fed beef! Woot. His instructions were good too.
I really like the music and setting there; plenty of prepared food stalls like Andy & Cynthia's Thai; Vegan Soul Food; shi-shi French cheese, etc. The flourless cheese balls are fun too! Make sure to go early or you won't get any potatos with your rotisserie chicken!!

This market is super close to Lake Merrit which is great to walk around too--only 3 miles! I don't like that the market is smack dab under a freeway (580) and hopefully that will be taken down in the future a la the Embarcadero in SF. (The reason for 4-stars only.)

CLose to Arizmendi's pizza co-op too!

Like a weekly festival

One of the East Bay's best farmer's markets in my opinion, it's like a little festival every weekend on a perfect area near Lake Merritt.
