Grow your Own Sprouts!

by Adam W.

How to grow your own sprouts in the comfort of your kitchen.

Active Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 7 Days

Ingredients

1 teaspoon alfalfa sprout seeds

1 quart jar

1 rubber band

cheescloth

Disinfectant (bleach, hydrogen peroxide etc.)

Directions

  1. Dilute your disinfectant with warm water (1 tsp disinfectant to 1 cup water)
  2. Soak your seeds in the water for 15 minutes (I know using bleach is against "green" rules, but you MUST disinfect the seeds - otherwise they may contain salmonella)
  3. Rinse seeds well
  4. Put seeds in jar
  5. Cover seeds with a few inches of water
  6. Cover the jar with a piece of cheescloth and seal it with the rubber band
  7. Allow to soak overnight
  8. Drain off the water the next morning
  9. Place upside down in a cupboard (away from sunlight)
  10. Let sit for 3-4 hours, then fill jar up with water, rinse, and empty again
  11. Place back in cupboard
  12. Repeat for 6 days
  13. On the seventh day, rinse on final time and put near a window (not in direct sunlight). this will allow the plants to turn green
  14. Screw the cap on, stick in the fridge and much away!
