send in your hair

You can send in your own hair or better yet, persuade your salon to send in all of their hair clippings to this non-profit, so that they can make hair mats - which are used to help soak up oil spills. November 7th an oil spill contaminated San Francisco's beaches - volunteers used hair mats to soak up the mess. They received a donation for $10,000 worth of oil eating oyster mushrooms which will compost the hair mats, safely turning the toxic oil into hydrocarbons. See their website for more information and how you can help the cause: http://www.matteroftrust.org/programs/hairmatsinfo.html#salons
