A compostable plate without any "buts"

I've used a lot of compostable plates in my time, but there always seems to be a but: But they don't compost very well. But they don't stand up to heat well. But they're made from food crop. But they're made from GMO ingredients. But they use binders (aka glue) to help them keep their form, leeching into food that's eaten in/on them. And, most importantly, but they're ugly :-9

I found a company that scoots all the buts out of there: Verterra. Their plates are made from leaves, and water (to steam them into shape) That's it. they're made into these neat shapes, look like wood, and they compost in 2 months, often less. They're reusable (I myself have used one 10 times!) They can be used in an oven to bake. And yes, hot foods aren't a problem. They're made from what would have been agricultural "waste", in an energy efficient factory by workers paid a fair wage, with access to health care.

I plan to use these next time I have a party, they're a great conversation starter, giving people that they can literally put their hands around and see what it means to live more sustainably, in an enjoyable way.
