Discover Hideway Bakery for Yourself

Located behind Mazzi's Restaurant, not far from the U of O in Eugene, Oregon, Hideaway Bakery was unknown to us for the first couple years after we moved to the area. It was only this past year we discovered this jewel of an old world artisan bakery hidden behind the locally renown Mazzi's Italian restaurant, here since the '70's.

Here are some of the breads coming out of the oven daily: Potato Tortano and Rustica, Country and Green Olive Levain, Sourdough, Whole Wheat Grain and Kalamata Olive Sourdough, Old World 100% Rye Grain Bread, and baguettes.... Hideaway Bakery is committed to using organic, local ingredients, as much as possible.

The well-insulated, 48 square foot (6'X8') wood-fired oven is central to the bakery space, everything that happens in the bakery happens around it...and amazingly, the room remains a cool, comfortable temperature. The masonry slab oven is fired every twenty-four hours. The wood used is a bi-product of a local mill located in the south of Eugene, which would otherwise be wasted. At 3pm the fire is stoked, then when the high heat, approximately 450-degrees, has cooked all of the black soot off the inside of the oven, the coals are scrapped out into the bin and baking begins. The breads and pastries are baked according to the temperature of the oven throughout the day and night. The pastries are the last goods that are baked in morning, when the oven is the coolest.

Hideway Bakery is Open 7 days a week 7 AM to 6 PM.
