It works for any kind of waterproof wrapper - I've even made this as a wristlet pouch with dollar bills instead of packaging.

Step 1

Materials:

  1. chip bag
  2. zipper
  3. 2 pieces of fabric for lining
  4. 2 pieces of vinyl

Step 2

Place zipper, right-side up, on lining, right-side up. Line up the top edges.

Step 3

Place vinyl on top, lining up top edges.

Step 4

Place chip bag on top, wrong-side up. Line up the top edges.

Step 5

Use the zipper foot. Sew through all layers at the top edge.

Step 6

Flip the vinyl and chip bag to the front, and the lining to the back. Finger press.

Step 7

Top-stitch the zipper.

Step 8

Place sewn piece on other piece of lining fabric, right-side up (the lining is right-side up).

Step 9

Place vinyl on top. Line up all top edges.

Step 10

Place chip bag on top, wrong-side up. Line up top edges.

Step 11

Sew through all layers of the top edge.

Step 12

Open up the piece so that the zipper is exposed on both sides. Top-stitch near the zipper.

Step 13

Open the zipper, and place a scrap piece of paper on the vinyl. The paper keeps the vinyl from sticking together.

Step 14

Open up the piece so that the vinyl/chip bag sides are touching and lined up, and the fabric lining sides are touching and lined up.

Step 15

Use the regular presser foot. Sew around, leaving an opening (sewing path is highlighted). Trim excess fabric and vinyl/chip bag.

Step 16

Turn inside out, discard scrap paper, and sew up hole in lining.

Step 17

See photo.
