Many common household items are considered hazardous waste. Here's where to take them when you're done with them.

Did you know that used batteries are considered hazardous waste?

DON'T THROW OLD BATTERIES IN THE TRASH!

In fact, there is a whole list of things you should not throw in the trash or flush down the toilet because their toxins will leach into the ground and our water supply.

Here are just a few:
*Prescription drugs
*Pesticides
*Empty drain cleaner bottles
*Air freshener cans
*CFL/fluorescent bulbs
*Batteries

If you don't know where or how to dispose these properly, use Earth911 as a resource. Type in the item you need to recycle or dispose of along with your zip code, and you will get a list of local places accepting the material you need to get rid of.
