How to Use Last Year's Phone Books

Old phone books can help you stay fit.

If you are like me, I end up with more than one phone book every year. But, before you toss one or both of them into the trash (heaven forbid) or recycle last's years heavy-weight duo, put them to good use.

You do need to be a bit of a contortionist, but this is something you can do with last year's phone books: The Elephant Trunk Yoga Pose:

What You'll Need

  • 2 Matching Phone Books
  • A Yoga Floor Mat
  • A Nimble Body (Disclaimer: I do not have one; I can't even imagine my body being able to doing this exercise!)

Instructions

Step 1: Grab a couple of used phone books, then sitting on your yoga mat, place your phone books even with your hips.

Step 2: Now, place your hands squarely on your phone books. Next, take one leg up as high as you can above the elbow on one arm... just above the elbow, as far up toward the shoulder as possible and drape it over your arm.

Step 3: Then, flex both your feet pointing upward, while pressing your hands down on the phone books and lift your whole body up, so that you are suspended in the air with the one leg draped over one arm above the elbow and the other leg stretched out in front of you and hold. Change sides and repeat... if you can.
