Human Powered Keyboard

Ever think about how much energy we would save if we harnessed all the energy on all the treadmills throughout the US? Now that is biodiesel! We have already seen the creation of a human powered kneebrace, dance floor, and a stationary bike that plugs right into a TV or a blender. Not to mention my personal favorite.

Now it looks like the next in line is something that makes sense for those of us who sit in a room all day plugging away at our computers – a human powered keyboard! Basically, every time you hit one of the keys, a certain amount of energy is generated and it goes right into your computer to run its battery. You can either have this supplement your battery, or you can have it set up directly, so that the computer will shut off if you aren’t typing.

It would certainly piss me off if my music shut off just because I turned away from my computer for a glass of water, but this technology is cool. I definitely see a point in the future where all of the excess energy we currently expend every day is harnessed and used to power all of the things in our lives that we so desperately love (aka my computer).
