Not what it used to be.

I visited Karyn's Raw recently and was saddened at the change in food. The prices are rediculous for what you get as well.

I first visited Karyn's long ago when she had the funky little store/restaurant in another part of town. The food was awesome, expecially the cashew stuffed tomato. She decided to change her scene a bit and get into a new building that would house everything healthy.

At first, this was awesome too. Very sheek in it's contemporary setting. Food was awesome no matter what you ordered even though the pricing was high.

Then I visited a few weeks back and actually felt ill by the time I almost finished my burger. I had a long drive home and continued to feel lousy until the next day.

For the price, I was not impressed with the quality or flavor nor was I impressed with the size of the meal. I got a burger which was far too dense in totality and nothing else. When we eat raw, we should have plenty of greens when eating dense foods so that we can digest properly. I think that is where I can't make an exception, even occasionally.

I will try again as Karyn's was sooo good all the other times I went. Will review again.

karyn's alive foods

Kayrn's offers a one of a kind gourmet living goods experience. The space is beautifully designed, with nice lighting and ambiance. The service is a bit slow, but worth the wait. The food is delicious and you will savor each bite. The organic, raw ingredients are a delight to your mouth and revitalizing to your body and spirit. A great way to start on this journey is to try the Sunday all-you-can-eat brunch, with soups, salads, gourmet dishes of all kinds, and an incredible array of desserts, all prepared without refined sugars or dairy. Karyn also has excellent classes on detoxing and food preparation. She is a pioneer in this field and Chicago is lucky to have this gem of a restaurant.

Worth Living in Chicago For

Karyns' Restaurant is all raw, fine dining. While the downside is the price, the food will make you feel alive, like you have been eating cardboard your whole life. Some people expect it to taste like cooked food, it doesn't. Go to her orientation first (she has them regularly), you will get it, and you will be hooked. Free samples at the orientation so you know what you're getting.

Great idea.... poor execution

I love Chicago. I love all of the great options available for vegetarian eating. I was excited when I happened to walk by Karyn's Raw Vegan Gourmet restaurant. I decided to take my wife there for dinner. From the second we sat down we should have known something was not correct. Everyone around us ha a lot of food on their plates, i.e. no one was eating what was on their plates. The service was unresponsive and ineffective. I applaud the idea. I think this place could serve a real niche. However, with this poor quality of food I think this is a step abck for vegans and vegetarians, rather than a step forward.
