Description: A reusable stainless steel water bottle.

This bottle serves as an alternative to disposable water bottles that are detrimental to our planet's health and more dangerous choices that are manufactured with much more chemicals, many of which cause cancer when released by heat. The design is modern, functional, and perfect for both genders. I would strongly recommend the purchase of a Klean Kanteen!

Ok, they do not have Sigg's glamorous graphics, and they are made in China. But other than that these are the perfect water bottle.
They are food grade stainless and thus are healthy for you. They keep you from using the devilish plantet killing plastic water bottles. They add no taste to the water. They are recyclable at the end of their life.
Like I said, buy one, use one, tell people that you see drinking out of plastic to do the same

I received a Klean Kanteen as a gift and it is always with me. I suggest purchasing a sling and a sport drinking cap.
Cleaning is simple. I purchased one for my daughter, I think of it as an heirloom gift. I like the clean feeling when drinking from the kanteen, and I drink more water.

I love the Klean Kanteen. Let me count the ways:
1. It is sturdy and durable.
2. It is made from recycled content (most steel is)
3. It is attractive and sleek
4. It is easy to clean.
5. It does not leach anything nasty into my beverages.
6. It fits many cupholders perfectly.
Cons (removing one star for each con):
1. wide mouth opening results in spillage. Don't try drinking while a passenger in a car! I resolved this by purchasing a plastic sports cap lid. Downside of that is now my water is passing over plastic. Sigh.

Sorry but I CAN taste the metal aftertaste with the Klean Kanteen even though i sounds like most other people don't notice it. I prefer my Sigg water bottle since it has no metal taste. I also saw someone's comment about the wide mouth opening and I totally agree, I usually spill it especially if i use it while working out. If you are choosing between plastic and a Klean Kanteen then its definitely a good choice but looking at that boring silver bottle on my desk makes me feel like I am at Girl Scout camp or at some kind of military facility. At least with my Sigg, i get a nice splash of color, I don't spill all over myself and there is no aftertaste.

I love these bottles more than I can express. A friend recommended stainless steel and the difference between these and plastic bottles in amazing. The water tastes--and is--cleaner inside and the steel keeps the water colder much longer. I'm never going back to Nalgene!

My wife has one and loves it. I have one from Greenfeet and also love it (www.greenfeet.com). There are others out there and I don't know if anyone is better than the other. These are light weight and do a great job in keeping us away from plastics. Greenfeet claims to be made "responsibly in China." Don't know where the others are made or how.

Just thought I'd add my two cents here. An alternative to Klean Kanteen is the Laptop Lunches stainless steel drink bottle (www.laptoplunches.com). They have two openings - a wide one for filling/cleaning and a smaller one for drinking which eliminates the spilling when drinking problem. The caps are plastic, so no metallic taste when sipping.

I love my Klean Kanteen, except that it has a very wide mouth so it spills all over the place if I am trying to drink from it on the bus or at the gym. I don't worry too much spilling, though, because I think of all of the plastic bottles I have spared!

I had wanted to get a stainless steel water bottle and had found that there are two major competitors: Sigg and Kleen Kanteen. I decided upon KK due to the fact that I wanted it to be able to get clean in the dishwasher. KK has a bigger mouth opening, thus is easier to clean. It is, however, a little harder to drink out of since the mouth is so big, but I live in Arizona and getting a quicker water intake is fine by me. I don't love that the container isn't insulated - that would be great - because if you put super cold water or super hot water in the container, you definitely won't be holding the container anywhere but from the screw on top. Speaking of the screw on top, I love that. I don't worry that anything will spill out and it's able to be clipped onto a backpack or just with my finger. The size I have - I think it's a 20 oz or so, fits great in any of my cupholders (car and stroller) and I like that it's a plain stainless steel design. I don't need any special swirls to feel special. So, kids, go out and get your own Kleen Kanteen.

After many years of watching my wife buy the small sport pack bottles from our water service (and seeing our money figuratively go down the drain) and realizing how much petroleum (i.e. oil) and gas is used to deliver those bottles, I said enough is enough. I did some research on SustainLane and discovered the Kleen Kanteen. I read the reviews by others and I can honestly say I was impressed. I immediately ordered two large and three smaller bottles (one for my wife and I and the three smaller ones for the kids). After about a couple of weeks (they were backordered) they arrived. I find the construction to be excellent -- my kids can certainly bang things around and these bottles can take what they dish out -- and the size to be just right for running, working out at the gym or just having water around. The fact that they're stainless steel helps keep any aftertaste from seeping into the water and the idea that I'm not wasting more money and oil by buying the plastic bottles from my water service helps me feel like I'm making a small difference. The only gripe I have is that they're made in China and I feel that we, as a community, need to spend less in China until they clean up their human rights record as well as their own environmental record. Anyway, it's a start and I intend to keep going and these are great bottles for carrying water whereever you need to.

That is if you get the one with the metal cap, the scraping sound of metal on metal just makes me crazy!!!!!!!
I'm thinking about getting the plastic cap. Other than that I love it. I think it's much better than my nalgene. Why? Because it was more expensive!

"All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the right one". Simply put: Klean Kanteen water bottle products are simply stainless steel, and, Klean Kanteen is a sustainable business, because they follow the principle of Occam's Razor.

After reading all the reviews, I finally got my own kanteen. I do like it but I do detect a very slight metallic taste?! It is new, and has been used several times so far. I've been keeping in in the refrigerator so it's cool when I need it, but does that affect the taste? I only fill it with spring water. It is easily portable, and though I prefer a non-plastic cap, the metal one is a bit noisy when sneaking a sip during my yoga class.
PS-this is MORE green than any other plastic/nalgene bottle!

I have been definitely been drinking more water since the purchase. I didn't necessarily notice a better tasting water right off the bat, but now when I use my nalgene bottles I don't like the taste as much. Its hard to know which one is more green, but if I helps me to drink more water, then I am all for it.

I have had my Klean Kanteen for several years now and I love it. It's lightweight and the water does not have a plastic aftertaste (or any after taste that I can detect). I have recommended this to friends and given them as presents. This is a great alternative to Nalgene type and Sigg type bottles (aluminum bottles are more labor and environmentally intensive to produce). Minus one star because it dents easily and has a tendency to leak (if you have the sport lid).

i bought the small klean kanteen for my 8-month old son, who is getting started with sippy cups. he uses the avent sippy top with it, which works wonderfully and doesn't leak much at all (even when thrown across the room, turned upside down, etc...). it's a good transition from his bottles, which are the same shape in his little hands. i feel good about not going the route of the plastic sippy.

This is one of my favorite purchases ever! Yeah, it's a little bit heavier than a plastic bottle, but big deal. So I'll get a little bit stronger carrying it.
Also, all the cool kids have them. :-) When I see someone walking down the street with a Klean Kanteen, I feel all warm and fuzzy knowing they're a kindred spirit.
And did you know that you don't have to mail order them? Rainbow Grocery in SF carries them. The Ecology Center in Berkeley does, too. That's where I got mine.

We love our Kleen Kanteens. Our daughter uses it with the sippy top or the sports top, we drink straight from the bottle. Water stays cool and fresh-tasting for a very long time. Very durable, just great!
