365 Every Day Value Soap Powder Turns to Cement
After using some other, more expensive, brand of laundry detergent for several months, I spied 365 Everyday Value Laundry Powder on the shelf at Whole Foods. It had been so long, I couldn't remember why I didn't have this at home because it was very economically priced. The scent is pleasant and not overwhelming and my clothing seemed clean enough.
Over the last several weeks, I have noticed hard white chunks of undissolved soap, with the consistency of plastic or cement, in my clothing. Today, I decided that I had not allowed enough space in the washer to properly dissolve the soap, so I ran the machine while I sorted my load. To my dismay, the soap that I sprinkled inside before I started the load had turned to a layer of white, brittle cement when the cold water hit it. I had to use a wooden spoon to chip it away. I'll test this with a warm water load and likely return it to Whole Foods with a copy of this review.
Another strike against is the inclusion of a plastic scoop -- I have enough measuring cups and scoops at home -- adding more plastic products does not help the environment. This may be a "good for the planet" product but it doesn't work very well and it's not economical if a large part of the soap doesn't even dissolve.
