Can you taste the love?

Seriously - what's with "love" as an ingredient in so many organic products these days? Despite the smurfy name, Judy's turns out some fantastic products. All natural and hand made with all vegan ingredients.

You can find Lovesticks at Whole Foods and Rainbow here in SF. Lovesticks also makes some great breadsticks - appropriately called "Twigs."

Lovesticks are whole grain products -- there are a lot of reasons you should eat whole grain breads, first and foremost -- less carbs, lowers your risk of heart disease, helps control diabetes and helps you weigh less. Seriously.

Whole grains have three parts: bran, germ, and the starchy endosperm. Refined grains are stripped of bran and germ. This takes away nearly all the fiber and nutrients and leaves behind nearly all the calories.

A 2004 study of the diets and health records of 27,000 40-75 year old men found that eating 40 grams of whole grains a day cuts middle-age weight gain by as much as 3.5 pounds.

So what are you waiting for? Go chew on a twig!

Lovesticks all around

This hand-made, vegan bread is nutty and hearty, made with all organic ingredients. Highly recommend it.

My friend Kate gave me a hunk and I'm enjoying it right now. She said it's the best bread and I must admit, it certainly is tasty.

I think the company Judy's Breadsticks is located in Mill Valley, and their bread is available at co-ops in San Francisco.

Judy's bread = heaven in a brown bag

I recently underwent the Master Cleanse, which means ten days on a liquid diet in an effort to rid my body of toxins and impurities. It's no wonder that I chose to break my fast with soup and, you guessed it, Judy's bread! That meal was a whole new experience with food for me. The perfectly soft, dense bread smelled so good I could barely contain myself...and the first bite was truly heaven. My friends are always wary of vegan products but Judy's bread always takes the cake! Yum!

Judy's Bread is the best hands down!

This is true organic stone ground vegan bread! It's the reall stuff dude! I get hyphy on this stuff almost everyday. It's very filling, super yummy when warm, very fresh, and apparently made with lots of love since it warms me up. Personally, I think it's great for digestion if you know what I mean. Kinda clears the road if you catch my drift. Honesty, I buy this bread religiously! It's not everywhere though you gots to search for it in true organic stores. I think less of a store if they don't have Judy's bread or at least someone with dreads behind the counter. :)

Bread Called Lovesticks For a Reason

For years I've turned to Judy's Breadsticks (formerly called Lovesticks) for dense, chewy, organic bread that's great to take on a roadtrip eaten in chunks, enjoy at home sliced and dipped in olive oil, or melted with cheese or other spreads.

I often quote the ingredients to my friends: organic wheat flour, olive oil, yeast, and just a couple of other things.

My favorite kind is encrusted with sunflower seeds, and they also come covered with oats.

They're available at Trader Joe's and other natural grocery stores in Northern California.
