I went into a Lowe's in Vacaville on Sunday, searching for seedling pots for my garden. I was surprised that all they had was peat-based or plastic. They had no biodegradable options that were not peat based -- fairly non-environmentally friendly as far as gardening goes. I also did not see any vegetable plants that were organic.

I also found it very sad that this same Lowe's has dozens of small birds trapped inside -- they are way up by the ceiling, fluttering and flapping around because they can't figure out how to get back out and aren't big enough to trip the motion sensors on the doors. Nobody at the store had any sense of how they were planning to get them down or prevent more from entering -- they just shrugged their shoulders and said "I dunno."

I went to Lowes figuring thaw with their huge carpeting and paint selections. I was sure to find at least one line, one type, one brand, one anything that was produced with concern for environmental impact and was not going to poison my family with VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions. I found nothing. If they had anything, it was certainly not labeled. I checked the kitchen appliances and could find no sign of even the Energy Star label. I guess I'll shop elsewhere.
